Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka 2021 is already underway

Elhuyar invites young people between 12 and 18 years of age from Euskal Herria and its teachers to develop scientific and technological projects, since Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka is an initiative of scientific projects developed by young people, with the aim of being able to live internally scientific research and technological development, and all the centers of Euskal Herria are invited to participate with young people of ESO and Bachillerato.

The group will work on the theme chosen by youth groups: asking, researching, designing, building and living new experiences. The result of the work will be both a research project and a technological project. In June will be held the central act of Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka: Large face-to-face market in the Plaza Nueva of Bilbao, if sanitary conditions allow.

With the aim of helping young people and having close references to the professional world of STEM, Elhuyar has already brought together a large group of researchers from the Basque Science and Technology network to advise them. In fact, more than 200 researchers have signed up for the Elhuyar Science Fair of 2021 as youth advisors. Of these, 55% are women and 45% are men.

Thus, within their projects, young people will meet true professionals of science and technology, share with them their adventures and experiences and accompany them in their work.

Calendar of the course

• From 1 to 31 January 2021:Pre-registration (form).
• From 1 February to 8 March 2021:Relationship with researchers (online).
• From 8 March to 12 April 2021:Send project for the fair (form).
• May 2021:Analysis of the work by the jury and contact with the teams (online).
• 5 June 2021:Main fair of Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka, which if circumstances permit, will be a fair in the Plaza Nueva of Bilbao.
• From June 2021:Prizes (trips abroad, training and stays in centres).

Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka has the economic support of the Basque Government, the Government of Navarre, the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), the City Council of Bilbao, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and Erabi, as well as the collaboration of the main Basque universities and research centers.

STEAM Euskadi Award

The Department of Education of the Basque Government gave Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka on 18 November 2020 the STEAM Euskadi award in the most innovative educational project category. Among the 133 projects submitted to the call were selected for its STEAM character, the methodology used, the results obtained, its innovative nature and the improvements implemented.

Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka is the STEAM project fair developed by ESO and Bachillerato students. It offers experiences and opportunities related to science and technology, involving researchers in scientific education and paying special attention to visibility to women.
