American researchers have used bacteria to move epoxy layers of a few micrometers through a liquid. Serratia marcescens is the bacteria and to move and stop it just turn off or turn on the ultraviolet light. In addition, they have moved bacteria directly or rotatively. Precisely, movement based on light is known as phototaxis, and this has been used by researchers. Researchers believe that bacteria can be the engines of future nanomachines.
