A study conducted in the United States reveals that female and male hearts do not change equally in ageing The research, led by John Hopkins University, has analyzed for ten years the more than 3,000 male and female hearts of between 54 and 94 years.
During research, they have shown that the part of the heart that pumps blood, the left ventricle, decreases with age. As a result, with each heartbeat there is a lower penetration of blood in the heart, so it is pumped less.
Although the decrease occurs in both cases, in both men and women, in the latter it is much more evident. In turn, in men also changes the muscle that surrounds the ventricle: increases and compact. In women, however, the muscle does not change or, in any case, it decreases slightly.
In addition, in each heartbeat decreases the amount of blood the ventricle ingests, which also happens in women and men: in women it decreases more.
In short, researchers have clearly seen that the heart does not age the same in women as in men. However, the treatment given to improve the functioning of the heart is usually the same for everyone, with the aim of reducing muscle volume. However, in view of the results of the study, researchers have warned that this treatment may be harmful to women.
Unfortunately, it is not the only example that medicine is made to the measure of men. If you bring them to light, it serves to accelerate the path to personalized medicine.
