The fossils of the ichthyostega amphibian are the oldest fossils that show the jump from water to soil (360 million years ago), so they are essential to investigate the physiological adaptations that made this transition possible. In this way, those special vertebrae were able to circulate by land and thanks to them the lungs did not deteriorate. But it seems that it was not very successful because they have not found descendants of them.
