BTEK, Technology Interpretation Center, has been chosen Best Cultural Building 2009 in ArchDaily, the most visited architecture website in the world. This website created two years ago to offer information on architecture launched at the beginning of the year the competition to choose the best buildings in the world 2009 in different categories: culture, religion, education and sport, among others. The vote has been carried out only through social networks Facebook and Twitter, being BTEK the one that has obtained the most votes in the category of Cultural Buildings (list of winners).
BTEK, the Technology Interpretation Centre, is located in the Technology Park of Bizkaia and opens in a few months. Before its inauguration, it has already received three recognitions: The first, organized by ArchDaily, the second, at the International Architecture Biennale of Sao Paulo, and the third, Honor Mention in the contest organized by the prestigious British magazine The Architectural Review 2009.
The BTEK building has been designed by architect Gonzalo Carro (ACXT) as two reference pyramidal volumes integrated into the landscape. Both buildings do not seem to be united with each other, but they do low. The first building is black, of terrestrial origin, with a structure heavier and closed than the other. And the second building, with two curtain walls and artificial grass cover, appears as an extension of the terrain whose width covers the entire plot.
The main objective of the BTEK Technology Interpretation Centre is the socialization of science and technology. His first steps were taken in 2005, when the Bizkaia Technology Park established the bases of the project and prepared the preliminary project. The work ended in 2009 and is currently finishing the museum area, led by the Elhuyar Foundation.
