Steps for evolution?

The laboratory analyzes the capacity of a butterfly species to change the genes.
The Bicyclus anynana butterfly has spots on the hillsides to protect itself from predators. Therefore, this “biological design” must be adapted continuously to the environment. Scientists have investigated how stains change.
It is clear that the gene that has coded the design of stains is long ago, and scientists wanted to study the changes that occur in that gene. To do this, the butterflies grew in the laboratory and analyzed the changes that occurred up to nine generations. In the end, it was affirmed that the genes of the two radical generations had different sequences of bases. Is it observed an example of small changes that progressively drive evolution?
