The European Commission, commissioned by EDFA (European Fusion Development Agreement), has hired the company JEMA de Lasarte for the design, construction and installation of four power supplies. These power supplies will be placed in the experimental nuclear fusion reactor EFDA-JET. The reactor is in Culham, UK.
The EFDA-JET reactor is the largest reactor currently in operation and a benchmark for the scientific community in this field. This reactor has also been one of the pillars on which the ITER project has been defined.
JEMA power supplies feed microwave systems that heat reactor deuterium (hydrogen isotope). Thus, deuterium reaches a temperature of 150 million degrees, enough to start the fusion reaction.
These power supplies have very special characteristics and are custom made. They use the most advanced technologies.
