Record surge in Japan

1988/06/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

Last April, one of the 4 main islands that make up the Japanese archipelago, Shoku, managed to connect with the central island of Honshu.

The bridge of 13.1 kilometers built to the nine years of works has achieved this link.

The bridge is simple but composed and consists of a large number of paths and bridges. These bridges and roads link the existing islets chain between the two main islands. The complex is the largest bridge system in the world. The upper road is for cars and the lower one for railways.

In addition, in this set of bridges there is a bright star, a bridge of 1,300 meters in length. This bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the world.

Thanks to these works, Japanese civil engineering has again demonstrated that it is at the forefront.
