Evolution of a prehistoric enzyme

A study by CIC bioGUNE researchers in collaboration with universities in Yale, Harvard and Oxford reveals that the enzyme that transforms DNA into RNA has barely varied by two billion years. Paradoxically, this enzyme that appeared two billion years ago in unicellular organisms is practically the same as that in the human body. The study was published in the journal Plos Biology.
