The chemist Jesus Mari Ugalde, winner of the Euskadi Prize
2003/12/11 Roa Zubia, Guillermo - Elhuyar Zientzia
The team led by Ugalde investigates theoretical chemistry. To do this, they use computer programs that simulate systems composed of atoms and molecules, analyzing the reaction pathways of these systems.
In theoretical chemistry, experiments are not performed in a laboratory but in a computer. For this it is necessary to feed the computer with different algorithms and suitable programs. Using these algorithms, the Ugalde team simulates many systems and can simulate conditions that are not found in terrestrial laboratories or terrestrial laboratories.
With this resource, Ugalde has mainly investigated the chemistry of the cation of the phosphorus atom, but has also studied the chemistry of other systems.
In 1998 he received the Xabier Munibe Award.
