New low-cost molecules for malaria treatment

At the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra, in the Department of Neglected Diseases, molecules capable of treating and preventing malaria have been synthesized. The activity of the molecules is similar to chloroquine (which is the reference compound) and allows to treat molecules resistant to the chloroquine strain of the parasite Plasmodium falciparum that generates malaria.

Computational studies have shown that the derived molecules developed have good pharmacokinetic properties, and in vitro and in vivo tests have yielded good results.
