The Movement of Mars Dunes

Northern Mars dunes are not static, as many researchers thought so far. NASA's MRO probe HD images show that they change and move with the seasons. These images have been analyzed by researchers from the University of Tucson (Arizona).

Researchers have proposed that the dune movement is due to a process that does not occur on Earth: the sublimation of carbon dioxide. Winter frozen carbon dioxide becomes gas in the spring of Mars. This gas somehow imbalances the sand of the dunes and generates movements.
