Scientists ask the European Union for an ambitious nature restoration law

Under the leadership of the European Association for Nature Recovery (SERE), 30 associations and thousands of scientists have signed a declaration calling for an ambitious nature restoration law. According to them, humanity is in a situation of maximum risk (“red code”) in terms of climate and life. The measure of the challenge requires an increase in effort and, although Europe has stronger legal frameworks than other territories for the protection of nature, in order to respond to the seriousness of the situation, it must deepen and sharpen.

The Declaration sets out concrete goals: to achieve the maximum possible degree of explosion; to incorporate new laws into pre-existing regulations; to prioritize certain ecosystems (wetlands, forests, pastures and shallow marine areas); to use a scientific evidence-based methodology; to do the field of application at the landscape scale; to restore urban, agricultural and mining landscapes; to advise legislators and prophecies; to commit in the long term; and to ensure the financing of investments.

The last point also calls for the prevention and prevention of damage resulting from emergency action. An example of this is the use of biomass, which can be harmful to biodiversity and the introduction of forests in scarce areas of organic matter.

The signatories state that this will reduce the impact of the climate emergency and protect biodiversity. They have therefore called on the European Union to act in this direction.
