To combat the ozone problem, about twenty years ago several compounds were banned, including CFCs. The ban has contributed not only to ozone, but also to Earth warming, as CFCs resist heat, five or fourteen thousand times more than carbon dioxide and four hundred times more than methane.

The Kyoto Protocol, designed to combat Earth warming, only takes into account carbon dioxide and methane emissions. However, it is clear that other compounds also significantly influence global warming, and should also be taken into account. A representative of the United Nations said that in combating the ozone problem, the contribution to Earth warming should be taken into account, as some of the compounds that replace CFCs retain heat but are authorized to use it because they do not significantly damage ozone.
