In 1879, Ira Remsen worked in the Johns Hopkins University laboratory with tar or tar derivatives.

He went to eat and everyone liked it very much. But his wife noticed nothing special.

He realized that the origin of the sweet taste was a white powder on his hands. The next day, upon returning to the lab, he performs the test and checks that this white powder came from a reaction from one of the tar derivatives. He told his colleague Constantin Fahlberg and published an article in 1880.

The story ends with the confrontation between two comrades. In fact, Fahlberg unilaterally patented saccharin synthesis and became angry with Remsen because he was the first to find it. However, in history books Falbergh appears as a discoverer of saccharin.
