Sexism harms science and public funding

Sexism, besides harming people, is one of the main agents of inefficiency in public funding, according to a study published in the journal Nature Reviews Materials.

The research was carried out by a group of researchers from universities in Central Europe and Australia, all of them women. And they conclude that sexism drives women out of science, even in the higher stages of academia. According to the researchers, it was expected that over time women would be more empowered, but in fact precariousness increases in the post-career stages. Given that many female researchers have invested heavily in public funding to reach the final stages of their career and, in addition, accumulated by their high scientific knowledge, the abandonment of research represents a significant economic and scientific loss.
