Elhuyar presents the multilingual search engine established at Zientzia.net
2012/07/25 Etxebeste Aduriz, Egoitz - Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria
Today they have been presented by Maddalen Lopez de Lacalle and Xabier Saralegi, of the R&D unit of Elhuyar, the search engines and related multilingual documents established on the Zientzia.net website. The search engine searches for information in texts found in other languages from a language and the document relator links the related contents through semantic search.
The technology used for this is “eLEZKARI” developed by Elhuyar, a search system for multilingual text collections. eLEZKARI is the result of the activity of the R&D group of the Elhuyar Foundation in the field of automatic retrieval of interlanguage documents.
In the case of the multilingual search engine, it is an interlinguistic search engine of scientific and technological news, and is the first of the interlinguistic search engines to consult multilingual collections on the Internet. Established at Zientzia.net, the consultation written in Basque in the search engine offers on the reference web pages answers in Basque and English related to search, classified by importance.
On the other hand, there are systems on the market that look for other documents related to a document, but do not take into account the language of it. Therefore, the texts in Basque offer very negative results. In this context, the Dokusare implemented at Zientzia.net. Thus, Dokusare (in the right column of Zientzia.net) will recommend other articles related to the article that the user is reading, returning the documents in Basque, Spanish and English found in the reference web pages.
Igor Leturia, director of Elhuyar's R&D unit and collaborator of Elhuyar magazine, will tell more about these technologies in the September issue.Gai honi buruzko eduki gehiago
