The "wet areas" of the world, estuaries, marshes, lakes, deltas, lakes, etc., are in grave danger. Not only in humid latitudes but also in tropical latitudes. To protect these wetlands, the international nature protection organization World Wildlife Fund has organized an awareness campaign. A problem similar to that of wet areas around the world appears in the Niger River Delta.

Their fertility has led people to overexploit, endangering their fragile ecosystem. The same happens in the lower course of the Senegal River by sugar cane and rice fields.

Drainage and pollution are one of the biggest enemies of wet areas. In the United States, 4.5 million hectares of wetlands were destroyed between 1955 and 1975, 87% of which were due to drainage. In Pakistan, shrimp fishing in the Indus River Delta is endangering factory contamination.

In Euskal Herria we also have examples. In recent years the pipeline and filling are being dismantled in the Zarautz area.
